Police misconduct has made news for many years, in Los Angeles. With that news have come changes, in part from exposing bad policing to public scrutiny, and in part from the lawyers who have worked to bring the cases to court: to obtain rulings forcing law enforcement agencies to abide by the United States Constitution, and to obtain compensation for the victims. To the right is the opening pages from a Los Angeles Magazine article in 1991 which highlighted some of the better known and the more active police misconduct attorneys at that time.
